Event Description

The Development of Sweeney Todd has spanned across two continents with research and development taking place in London, England, which is being created at the Woodlawn Theatre. Reporters and Photographers have taken pictures of actual buildings on Fleet Street where the Demon Barber, Sweeney Todd, and his partner in crime, Mrs. Lovett, operated one of the most brutal serial killing acts of all time. The Woodlawn Theatre is hosting one night for all media to catch a glimpse of a show that will challenge theatre in San Antonio and raise the bar of theatre bringing it to the quality one would find in London, England on the WEST END. Be the first to experience the this interactive Musical Thriller based on true events, live on stage only at the Woodlawn Theatre. This international production chose the Woodlawn Theatre over other theatres because they could build a scaled down version of Fleet Street throughout the entire Theatre. There will also be an interactive market place as you enter the theatre, which will give you the total interactive feel of 17th century London, England. Todd, barber by trade, and Lovett, local town baker, worked together to seek revenge, killing the townspeople one by one and baking them into the most delicious meat pies. Little did the town know they were eating each other off one by one.

Venue Description

The historic Woodlawn Theatre opened in 1946 as an elegant venue for Hollywood films. In 2006 the Woodlawn Theatre took on a new birth. It is currently being restored by Amphisphere Theatre Productions, whose vision is to revolutionize entertainment in San Antonio. The Woodlawn Theatre is also the home to the Amphisphere School of Theatre Arts (ASTA), which provides musical theatre classes to high school students.
