Begin Holiday Memories in San Antonio

The holidays are a perfect time to visit San Antonio. The city begins the celebration the day after Thanksgiving and continues through the New Year. The Ford Holiday River Parade and Lighting ceremony begins the festive season. Held on November 27 at 7:00 p.m., more than 200,000 lights sparkle along the San Antonio River Walk. Stay for the annual holiday parade at the Arneson River Theater. After the parade, stroll to Alamo Plaza where a Texas size tree illuminates the Alamo. San Antonio also provides many places to do great holiday shopping. The Guadalupe Cultural Arts Center will host their annual Hecho a Mano Fine Arts and Crafts Market from December 4 – December 6. Peruse artwork by local and regional artists. Bazaar Sabado is another time-honored event for the discerning shopper. In its third decade, this event will be held on December 12 at the San Antonio Museum of Art. Available items include textiles and one of kind gifts from around the world. For the little ones, Santa’s Railroad Wonderland at the Texas Transportation Museum begins December 2009. Enjoy nighttime hayrides at this decorated forty-acre wonderland. View the holiday themed historic depot, trains and garden railroad. Our San Antonio theme parks also get into the holiday spirit. "SeaWorld San Antonio’s Christmas Celebration" transforms the park with shows that encompass the season; including Shamu Christmas… Miracles, Deck the Halls and more. Six Flags Fiesta Texas celebrates “Holiday in the Park.” The park is filled with lights, holiday décor, themed shows and caroling. Ring in the New Year with Celebrate San Antonio! This is San Antonio biggest New Year’s Eve party held in downtown San Antonio. Be there for the countdown at mid-night as the fireworks surround the 750-foot-tall Tower of the Americas, a great way to start the New Year!
