Notre Dame and Washington State Fans Celebrate Halloween in San Antonio

On October 31, 2009, Notre Dame’s Fighting Irish will battle the Washington State Cougars at the 65,000-seat Alamodome in historic San Antonio. Aside from spine-tingling football action, San Antonio will entice fans with a seasonal mix of theme park thrills and cultural offerings. Located in culture-rich downtown, the Alamodome is a short stroll from the newly expanded River Walk where fans will find everything needed for an authentic San Antonio getaway: hotels, restaurants, nightspots and even historic sites. Plus, there’s so much to do in San Antonio during this hallowed season. Streets come alive with Día de los Muertos celebrations where souls of the deceased are believed to rejoin the living in a festival to eat, drink and rejoice as they did when they were living. It’s a great holiday for lovers of culture and history as well as families looking for unique Halloween celebrations. Events include a parade of coffins along the River Walk and colorful altars set up throughout the nation’s largest Mexican market (Market Square). Kids of all ages are in for a treat during Halloween celebrations at theme parks SeaWorld San Antonio and Six Flags Fiesta. Spooktacular events are complete with shows, haunted houses and eerie costumed characters! For a German infusion, fans can head to Wurstfest in nearby New Braunfels. This unique celebration is a10-day salute to sausage. Entertainment options including a polka contest, games, rides, food and drinks on the Wurstfest grounds in Landa Park. Now with the San Antonio Vacation Experience (S.A.V.E.), visitors can stay and play even longer. S.A.V.E. offers Texas-sized savings on over 40 hotels ranging from Hill Country resorts to River Walk retreats, and discounts at over 20 popular attractions. Fans may come for the game, but there’s so much more action waiting in San Antonio! The journey begins at www.visitsanatnonio.com or by calling 800-ALAMO-07.
