Four Day Nature Adventure

Day One

N_Azuca_1.jpgEnjoy breakfast at The Guenther House, then walk around the King William Historic District and tour the Steves Homestead Museum. Visit the galleries and shops in the Blue Star Arts Complex. Follow the scenic River Walk to downtown and lunch at Schilo’s Deli. Take the VIA Bus 7 Sightseer Special to the Botanical Garden and walk the Texas Nature Trail. Go back downtown for a massage at the Westin Riverwalk spa and snack on tapas in the lounge at Hotel Contessa. Enjoy dinner at La Frite or Azuca in Southtown, then hit the town any way you please: go salsa dancing, catch a show or enjoy live music on the River Walk.

Day Two

TubingSanMarcosAfter breakfast at the Magnolia Pancake Haus in north San Antonio, head to New Braunfels to float the Comal River or tour Natural Bridge Caverns and shop in Gruene, a good place for lunch. Afterward, head toward Wimberley and stop at the Wimberley Glass Works to watch artists demonstrate glass-blowing. Or drive to Johnson City to visit the LBJ National Historical Park and tour LBJ’s ranch near Stonewall. Head back to San Antonio and dinner at La Hacienda de Los Barrios on the deck under shady oaks.

Day Three

DT_Fredericksburg_5.jpgEnjoy a morning drive to Fredericksburg for breakfast at Rather Sweet, then hike up Enchanted Rock or explore Fredericksburg’s Main Street. Eat lunch in Fredericksburg at Altdorf’s Biergarten or the Fredericksburg Herb Farm. Visit several nearby wineries or drive over to Ingram to see a 7/8-scale replica of Stonehenge at the Hill Country Arts Foundation. Explore the shops of Comfort and Boerne or visit Boerne’s Cibolo Nature Center. Cap your day with dinner at the Grey Moss Inn.

Day Four

HC_Bandera_1.jpg Drive to Bandera for breakfast at the Old Spanish Trail, where the counter stools are real saddles. Check out its spurs collection before taking in a mid-morning or afternoon horseback ride at a local guest ranch. Attend an evening rodeo at the Twin Elm Guest Ranch or BR Lightning Ranch, and end your trip on a high note. Do the Cotton-eyed Joe at the Silver Dollar Saloon, a true Texas honky-tonk with live country and western music.
