Great Getaways

A four-day visit is perfect for scripting your own San Antonio love story. There is no more romantic place than the San Antonio River Walk, whether it's the lively commercial district or the more park-like Museum Reach and Mission Reach. Here are a few ideas to help you relax and reconnect.

Day One

Enjoy a massage-for-two at the Mokara Hotel & Spa, followed by lunch at Ostra. Stroll along the River Walk to the historic Southwest School of Art. Then visit the artisan shops in La Villita for a unique keepsake. For dinner, book a reservation for a candlelight dinner cruise on the San Antonio River. You may even get a glimpse of a marriage at Marriage Island, a small island near Hotel Contessa that is well-known as a place for couples to exchange vows.

Day Two

Take a drive to the scenic Texas Hill Country and visit eclectic shops, museums and gardens in the German town of Fredericksburg. After lunch at one of the town’s many German restaurants (famous for their delicious pastries), visit the area’s expanding wine country. Visitors can do a driving tour themselves, but it’s more relaxing to book a wine tour aboard a luxury van or limousine with a knowledgeable tour operator.

Day Three

Explore San Antonio’s missions in the morning, then enjoy a Tex-Mex lunch in Southtown at Rosario’s or El Mirador. Stroll along the charming streets of King William and admire the stately and impressive historic homes built by German citizens in the 1800s. After a restorative siesta, enjoy an intimate pre-set 8-course meal with cocktails at Mixtli Progressive Mexican Culinaria. Advance reservations required.

Day Four

Stroll the serene paths amid reflecting pools and ornamental plantings at the Japanese Tea Garden or visit the San Antonio Botanical Garden to relax in a tranquil 38-acre oasis of natural beauty. Then head to the historic Pearl and sample some of the city’s best boutiques, bars and restaurants. If you have a passion for food and wine, then the two of you can check out the Culinary Institute of America food enthusiasts’ classes. Follow it up with dinner at Boiler House Texas Grill & Wine Garden or Southerleigh, also at Pearl.
